Thursday April 28th & Friday April 29th, 2011~ School Days ~ This Educational Event is part the Battle of Selma Re-enactment's Strategic Partnerships Program.

This is the 5th year Wallace Community College of Selma has facilitated this 500 to 1,000 student per day hands-on living history event. In addition to the 10 specific Living History stations visited by each of the school tours, there will be cannon Night Firing demonstrations at 7 pm on Friday night and a Camp Dance featuring the music of a period band, in Sulter's Row with period dance instruction immediately following.  

In 2010 over 2,000 students, teachers, and parents enjoyed this Civil War Era Living History Program.

 Spinning at Battle of Selma School Days

Mrs. Lawson demonstrates a variety of textile production techniques utilized on the southern home-front during the American Civil War, including spinning, weaving and dyeing. Her formal studies include work at the University of Alabama, the John Campbell School, and a variety of apprentice and workshop positions. On a longer time scale, she depicts the life and work of the southern farm woman from 1730 to 1870, with long experience in multiple time periods.


 

Battlefield Medicine

 Doc Thomason, a member of the society of civil War surgeons, will be demonstrating civil war surgery techniques and disease. Thomason has 26 years of military service, has taught SCUBA first aid, CPR, EMT, Para Medic and Nursing.

The Official Flag T-Shirt Option
Many years ago the Battle of Selma Re-enactment began to help publicize the plight of the Civil War era flags belonging to the Alabama Department of Archives & History. Over the last 20 years many thousands dollars have been raised for the Flag Conservation Fund from the Sale of the Official Battle of Selma T-Shirt. This year the flag honored on the Official T-Shirt is of the Hayneville Guards from Hayneville, Alabama.



The Official Flag T-Shirt Option for your group consists of:
· Admission to School Days at the Battle of Selma
· An Official Battle of Selma Flag T-Shirt
· Choice of Group T-Shirt color (subject to availability)
· Delivery of T-Shirt prior to Field Trip
· Total cost $20 per student (Group Rates – payment due upon order)
